What are you doing today that you won’t regret tomorrow? What are you not doing today that you’ll wish you had done? It’s not too late to HALT, shift and make a change. Yesterday I listened to a podcast that was entitled "What’s your gift to your future self?" or something like that. I was a little skeptical in the beginning as I listened. But then I finished listening to the episode and started asking myself, what have I done these last few years, or even 10 years that are now a gift to me today? What could I have done that would have been a gift to me today? Many things came to mind.
So I realized, I’m not living up to my full potential. If anything I’ve let a lot of things slide, given up on dreams and have just been existing. Life is not about simply existing till Jesus comes. Life, as Jesus said, is for us to live abundantly. That means LIVE, don’t just exist. I am alive. You are alive. Others didn’t make it to this morning. I am here. You are here. If you halt and reflect… What things need to shift or change or be done differently? Write it all down over the next couple of days. See your future self five or 10 years from now. And be thankful for the shift and the changes you’re going to make. Because your future self will be grateful.
"Delay instant gratification" was one of the nuggets mentioned in the podcast. I thought about my binge watching moments that take a lot of time of my life but are not productive. All it is is instant gratification, time wasted and lost. Granted there’s a time for everything. But if precious time, that can’t be "done over“ is lost, always doing things that my future self won’t benefit from what’s the point? How about sleeping in, instead of getting up to exercise or learn something new? Sleep is good, don’t get me wrong. But rest is better.
Rest well, get up and make good choices that you don’t have to regret later on in life OR wish you had done. Halt – reflect – move. Now that you know what you know, Desire what your future self will enjoy, start today. What should I do today that doesn’t need to be postponed to tomorrow? What should I do now that I don’t have to do later? There’s no time like the present. When you take care of you – you will be able to be there for others. Get your mind, body, soul and spirit in check and in sync. Live well!!! You deserve it and your future self will be grateful. Respond to your challenges/limitations differently. Your future self will thank you !Your present self will live intentionally and stop merely existing. Live!!
