As you conclude the week... do you have time to reflect on how things have gone? Maybe you have... or not. Sometimes it seems that you are always in a rush from one thing to another. Overstretched and possibly overwhelmed. You may (often) find yourself saying YES to more things than you are physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually apt for--there needs to be a "pause" and time for reflection. What is that? Reflection... A time to be STILL? Who has the time... maybe some of your thoughts... Whatever the case, the truth is that only YOU can make the time.
A still mind allows you to regroup, refocus, refuel and you get to rest--even if it's just for a short while. How many times in a day (or week) do you refuel--catch a breath or something? A car can only run for so long when the "empty' gas (fuel) tank light comes on. There is only so much in the 'reserve' that when all of that is used up... the car will come to a halt... how much more you? How much more your mind? A still mind helps the body, soul and spirit to function better. STILL means: "not moving or making a sound." OR "deep silence and calm; stillness." Can you make (not find) time to be still and have a still mind?
It's definitely easier said than done... I get that... I know that... I go through that... but I make the effort... will you make the effort? When you are in the zone of doing this and that, you just keep going and going and going and going... When are you going to STOP - pause (for a while) and have a still mind? Imagine a a rushing waterfall--the waters flowing (racing) at a fast pace... not racing against anyone but the water itself. In some cases, the waters fall into a river that slowly tapers off and becomes still filled with gentle water. The same rushing water becomes still as it tapers off. Are you a constant waterfall or do you find moments to flow like a river? Do you ever get to taper off to be still--just for a while until the next turbulent gets you going? Where are you in life? Remember... You are only racing against yourself... and no one else even though sometimes it feels like you are racing against other people. There is only one YOU... YOUR LIFE... that only YOU can LIVE.
As you conclude this week, it's good to taper off and have a still mind. You may have a busy weekend planned ahead (or thrown at you) - but I encourage you to find that moment when you can step away and have a still mind. Engage yourself in the act of having a still mind... even just for a "minute." The Word of God reminds us: "You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You." (Isaiah 26:3) So... Regroup, refocus, and refuel. Your mind, body, soul and spirit will truly thank you! Try it...
