As I grow... and I am sure as you grow, and go through different experiences, you may be (or have been) cautioned with the statement, "less is more" and so you work on being able to know when to speak and when not to--what words to use to be understood when you are faced with different situations. Challenging but possible--especially when you find yourself at your wits end! The Word encourages you (and I) to be slow to speak and quick to listen.
My latest discovery about saying less (or nothing at all) came to me with such clarity and peace that I received it with joy: "And say to him: ‘Take heed, and be quiet; do not fear or be fainthearted for these two stubs of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and the son of Remaliah." (Isaiah 7:4) Basically, hang tight! I certainly agree that this is easier said than done, but if you are not willing to try it and give it a go, you will never know that you can conquer this too. Don't fret or stress about the situation. God's got it! It's already taken care of.
Think about it... who (or what) are the "thorns in your flesh" that are stubs of smoking firebrands? Are you able to simply be still, keep silent and fearless? Can you really "hang tight" for things to work out as they should? How are you responding to what is happening in each and every conversation that you find challenging? Today, remember that less is more... as you "hang tight" in dealing with the situation you are facing. Many words could be said... but what good would that do if all you need to do is be quiet just to let things pan out as they should be. Don't fall short and say more than you have already said... for now, use discernment (the ability to judge well) and hang tight! Again... more could be said... but... ummm... nope! So, hang tight and if possible, lips sealed :)! You will be thankful you developed the strength and endurance for this.
PS: I applied this "be quiet" concept/approach and it took everything I had to be quiet... but I was successful! I am sure it will get easier the more I practice... You can do it too! So hang tight and practice!
