Commitment...

Day in and day out, we all have commitments that we need to fulfill--by choice and others by obligation. Commitment means: "a promise to do or give something; a promise to be loyal to someone or something; the attitude of someone who works very hard to do or support something." (Merriam-Webster). With the right attitude, fulfilling commitments is a joy! However, without the right attitude (when you feel "forced") fulfilling some commitments may be daunting and draining to say the least. What is your attitude to the commitments you have?

It all starts in the mind and has to be completed or followed through with actions. As you are human and not perfect (phew!), you are not always able to fulfill some commitments. For some people, that is because of choices they make and yet for others it's just simple (or complex) limitations of where they are in life. That's just life. What commitments have you made this year, month, for this week or even just today--to yourself and to others? How do you plan to fulfill those commitments? Without a plan, it's more likely that you will fall short and not follow through with the commitment.

Have you over-committed yourself to too many things lately? Can they be spread out or shared with other people? (Sometimes we forget that we can share commitments... simply ask for help!) Are you taking your commitments seriously? How would you feel if someone made a commitment to you and then didn't follow through? That person or organization never ever communicates to you and doesn't provide an explanation (reason) for why that commitment wasn't fulfilled? You would probably be disappointed. Think about how you are communicating about commitments you know or realize that you can't fulfill due to reasons beyond your control--or change of heart. Be honest about what you can and can't do. Seek help if needed.

As for your walk with Jesus... He made a commitment to you that He will always fulfill. "No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you." (Joshua 1:5, NKJV) What a great example to follow. Remember to do your part on the commitment you made to Jesus: "You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him." (Deuteronomy 13:4, NKJV) Commitment. Daily renew your commitment to Him and He will help you fulfill your commitments.

PS: However you plan to fulfill your commitments, do it with grace, wisdom and a good attitude!
