I enjoy sleeping... once you sleep, the next logical thing is to wake up. And when you're up... you need to plan to succeed... However... sometimes you don't want to get out of bed just because. No particular reason, but just to stay snuggled up in that warm, comfortable and cozy bed (or wherever you sleep). I realize that some people can't wait to get out of bed ready to take on the world (day). More power to you if that is possible every single day of your life. For some of us, once in a while, some days don't start off very energetic. During those days, all you desire is to be still and relax a little while longer in bed. I bet you would love to be waited on if that is an option. I know I would love to be waited on once in a while.
Anyway, after some "me time" in bed, you know that you need to wake up and take on the world (day). You have what it takes to do all that's purposed for you today. So, don't sleep your life away :) I encourage you to plan and not just go with the flow completely. A combination of planning and being flexible with today would be a good balance. After all, you need to be adaptable to curve balls that come your way--without fretting.
The past two days I put this approach into practice more intentionally. Each morning I woke up and prayed--committed my plans (in detail) to Jesus and actually made progress. This was different to the other days when I just woke up and "went with the flow" doing the usual stuff and each day just passed me by. Sometimes "the flow" can lead you astray or derail you from all that you really needed to do. Granted, other times, going with the flow is just want you need. Hence, the need for balance: planning and being flexible. Without such balance... well... if you're not careful, "going with the flow" days can turn into weeks, months and then years... and you wonder what happened... whenever you come to :)
As you plan your day... be very specific in what you want to achieve, and make sure the list isn't too long or too much to handle--maybe a few key things you need to accomplish to set the stage for the next day; or to close out on something from the previous day. Remember God's Word: "Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established." (Proverbs 16:3, NASB). Once you set out your plan for the day, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB)
Decide. Commit. Succeed. Enjoy today!
