How far have you come? How much longer do you need to keep going in this season? How much work is involved to complete the task? Will you make it on time? Will you make it at all? Is that good enough? The list of questions is endless... and how you will answer... It's all a matter of perspective. For the most part, you are operating and making decisions based on your own perspective.
Perspective is defined as: "a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view." Whatever is going on in your life, at the end of the day, it's all about your perspective. Others may have their opinions (and expectations) as people watching from the outside looking in. But, you are in the midst of your situation and so your perspective may be different. Be open to other perspectives as they may actually be worthwhile and you will be glad you at least "considered" them.
When you are faced with a difficulty (fill in blank), the tendency is to think it's just too hard to handle or overcome, that you don't even try or make any effort because you just feel overwhelmed. Other people may try to help by giving their suggestions, but to you--they just don't get it because they are not in it. They are only speaking from their perspective--and it's up to you to decide what will influence you. You need to know and believe in your heart that you have what it takes to overcome everything that you face in life. You were equipped to do so even before the beginning of time. It may take you a little longer compared to other people in the same situation. How you respond and handle things is often affected and influenced by your perspective.
An example: Some people see being a Christian as difficult or restrictive without really thinking about and considering the relationship with Jesus that is two-way. But, having a relationship with God is the most rewarding experience one can have because of who God is. A love that is unconditional. Unfortunately, for some, they don't even consider the benefits of being a follower of Jesus Christ such as peace, love, joy, patience, kindness and above all redemption and eternal life. That's one perspective that prevents such people from experiencing life to the fullest in God. I often say, give something a try before writing it off because of your biases or perspective.
Some people are afraid to be parents because they think (perceptive) it is far too hard to handle that they can't even imagine themselves being in that role. When you ask a mother or father (or just observe from the sideline), they will tell you that the reward of the experience far outweighs the challenges/difficulties that come with parenting. It's all about perspectives. (Disclaimer: Parenting is not for the faint hearted :))
I am sure you have several other examples going through your mind about perspectives: maybe, contemplating going back to school, starting a business, etc. It's really all a matter of perspective. What you choose to do (or not do) is because of how you see the world and that situation... your perspective! As we are all often encouraged to do: think before speaking... remember, before you judge another person, consider their perspective... and your perspective! Whatever you are facing today, consider your perspective and if anything needs to be adjusted :).
