I've heard it said: "Laughter is good for the soul," and I truly believe that with all my heart. There is always a time for laughter... according to Ecclesiastes 3:4 "A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;" It is important to remember to laugh--even if that means laughing at yourself. What's there to laugh about? Life's too short NOT to fill it with laughter!
You need not always be focused on what you don't have, can't do or haven't done that you forget to laugh. Whenever you find yourself in a pickle, sometimes all you can do is laugh. I've done that many times and it helps calm me down and put things into perspective so that I don't become irrational in the decision-making process of whatever I need to address. When you don't laugh, you may be sorrowful or crying... try to laugh often.
There are many opportunities to laugh in life that we need to seek them out without hesitation. When you're sitting alone, you might recall something and burst into laughter. That may seem like madness if people pass by you and you're laughing all on your own, but the joy that laughter brings makes your heart relax and brings thoughts/feelings of gratitude for that particular incident/experience. Sometimes you burst into laughter with a friend about the silliest of things, yet, because you understand each other, it makes that moment memorable and enjoyable. When you reflect on or talk about some of your most embarrassing moments with friends and/or family, sometimes that brings bouts of laughter--and you can only be thankful you survived those experiences. When was the last time you laughed with a friend or family?
Being about to laugh, when your heart is heavy helps lift up your spirit, mood and attitude. Just like a timely word from Jesus or a close friend. Random... One of my fun activities: I love watching comedies because of how much I enjoy laughing. So, when my heart is heavy, and I've prayed and left the issue at the feet of Jesus... I watch a comedy and just let loose with laughter! It truly makes a difference. Laughter is the best medicine :)
Laughter doesn't have to be forced, but if necessary... absolutely necessary and warranted... try laughing until you actually feel the real joy of laughing and then let loose! My take on it... laughter is therapeutic. So, laugh your way through life! Today, just remember to laugh... sometimes that starts with a simple smile :) Laughter is good for the soul!
