Being Still...

Being still happens for some people at different times of the day, for long or short periods of time. Sometimes, we only get to be still when we are laying down to sleep. Or... the day goes by, and we miss the opportunity to be still... and it's already tomorrow! Whatever your challenges, this is a gentle reminder to practice being still... for your sanity :).

In the stillness of the morning, I wake up to a brand new day and that's the best time I find I can be still. Sometimes silence can be deafening, but if silence is what you need to find a moment to be still, like me, morning is one of the best times I find I can do that. I wake up and consciously receive the gift from above, a present to unwrap and do with as my heart desires. Everyday we get a present (the present) and have the opportunity to choose what our attitude will be like in order to make an impact... or just have a good day! Take a moment and be still... with that thought!

Morning is when some people take time to focus and plan their day. Night/evening is when some take time to reflect and check things off a list or to simply give thanks for making it through the day! For some, all of this happens throughout the day. Whatever time that works for you... it's not about when you do it... it's the fact that you have done it! That is: You make and take time to be still. “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10a)

I start the day being still in the morning to reflect, think and write down my thoughts. In the stillness of the morning, I think more clearly and am reminded that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I give thanks because I made it to another day! I also lay my requests before God in prayer... just as the Psalmist said: "My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up." OR "In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." (Psalm 5:3) Depends what version you are reading.

In the morning when I am being still... I know the obvious... yesterday is gone... so no need to worry or stress about that. Tomorrow will have it's own issues--good and challenging! So I have today, and start by being still. I like Psalm 4:4 which says, "Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah" So, I relax and commune with my own heart in the morning... and also at the end of the day, as I am falling asleep. Whatever your preference in terms of "when" works best, focus more on making the opportunity of "being still" a daily habit... and just BE STILL!
